Unica netInsight can analyze clustered logs files no matter if they are load balanced or not. This blog entry will show you the steps to go about doing this within the interface.

To set this up, please do the following steps below:

Locate the desired profile

Click on the Options tab

Locate and select Main -> Log Files

Pick the clustering you wish to use. There is the choice between single site and multiple sites. Single houses and serves up the same content regardless of the number of servers (as any one of the servers, which all have the same content, could provide it to the end user). Multiple serves up different content for each server in the cluster.

Save your preferences

Locate and select Server 1 -> Edit

Enter the name for the server. You will also enter the URL for the server as well here. If multiple site clustering is present, each site will need to have its unique URL entered

Once completed, select the server

Click on Add/Edit Log Files

Select Add

Select the location where the log files are. There are two options to choose from (FTP server or locally)

Select Auto Detect for the log file format so the system does it itself. You can also specify the format if you do not want netInsight to do it

Input the location for the file

Click Add

That’s it! You will need to repeat the steps if you have multiple log files or multiple servers however you have the foundation to add clustered log files.

Please Note:

To analyze cluster logs, each and every server must rotate log files at the synchronously and use the same nomenclature.

Sometimes, but not normally, you might need to move your copy of NetInsight from one server to another. Below are the necessary steps needed to accomplish it.To move the configuration and data to another server, you will need to do the following:

Prepare the new server to handle the NetInsight install by creating a new database instance for the new server.

Place a new install on the new server. Point the database location to the new server.

Create new profiles with the same names as the ones on the older server. When creating the profiles, set them up as empty (i.e. without any configuration options).

Copy the data directory to the new server. On a UNIX box, this would be located within /usr/local/NetInsight.

Copy all the older tables from the old server’s database to the new database. These can be easily identifed by the name “profilename_*”.

If you are using and data model extensions or data conduits, you must copy the associated .xml files for the data model extensions and the data conduits and their corresponding configuration files to the new server’s database.

On the new server, regenerate the reports by running a nettracker all -regen within the program directory.

Please Note: If you profiles are using custom log formats, copy the <logformats> to </logformats> section within the netTracker.cfg file on the old server.

Understanding individual level insight provides more information than always looking at things at an aggregate level. Instead of just looking at performance across the various marketing campaigns, leveraging behavioral insight on users can help create that personalized user experience, improving their time interacting with your brand and potentially increasing conversion rates. This can be done by creating a funnel report and listing the individuals within each funnel step (regardless of login status). Accessing the users behind each funnel step will provide insight into what their patterns are. This will help answer the following questions:

What are individuals preferences and interest?

Where do individuals stand within the process?

What time of day / day of week do they consume the most content? Convert?
