WebTrends Helpful Tip – Using WT.svl for SmartView
SmartView is a helpful tool that overlays web data on the given page. You can look at pathing, conversions, clicks on particular links and view/analyze data whether your site is dynamic or static. But what if you wanted to take SmartView to the next level? What if you have several links pointing to the same destination? This blog posting dives into that and provides some color on how to fix this potential issue.Lets say you have a page or set of pages that have many links pointing to the same destination URL. A best practice to follow with WebTrends SmartView is to implement and leverage the SmartView query string parameter. The parameter for this is the WT.svl query parameter which will help uniquely identify the links. An example of this is below:http://www.mysite.com/test_page.php?WT.svl=link1Now with this in place, you won’t have to ever worry about not being able to report up to senior management with regards to the same destination links on a given page (how effective they are in driving clicks and conversions).
