Omniture Helpful Tip – Additional Mobile Link Tracking Info
Building on my previous post, entitled “Omniture SiteCatalyst Helpful Tip – Tracking Exit Links on Mobile Devices“, I wanted to follow up with some additional helpful information regarding mobile tracking. Below is a explanation of how the mobile link tracking & redirection work. Please note that with this collection code syntax (using the /4/ notation), Omniture SiteCatalyst wi’ll attempt to redirect the user to the “url” parameter in the URL.This is a method that Omniture provides to help track links for mobile visitors that don’t execute Javascript (e.g. older cell phone and Blackberry devices). When the /4/ notation is used, they will collect the hit immediately, but then redirect the user to whatever the “url” parameter is in the query string (in this case, http://www.webanalyticscentral.com).If the “url” is a fake one (e.g. www.foobar.com), they will still collect the hit like normal, and show it in the SiteCatalyst interface, but the redirect part obviously won’t work (you’ll get a “page cannot be displayed” error in your browser) because the URL doesn’t really exist.
