Omniture SiteCatalyst Helpful Tip – Correlating Data within Data Extracts
Data Extracts, a nice handy feature provided by Omniture SiteCatalyst, provides the ability to take data out of SiteCatalyst and have it sent via FTP or email to the intended parties. It lets end users have the ability to select the metrics/parameters that they wish to see in an x and y axis manner (see screenshot below).
The difference between data extracts and say setting up a correlation/subrelation report and sending that to stakeholders are:
Data Extracts:
- delivered reports only available in CSV format
- customize the report to set various values for the X and Y axes.
Automating Correlation/Subrelation Report:
- delivered reports in PDF, CSV, HTML or XLS file formats
- reports are not customizable (i.e. for a products report revenue will remain on the Y axis and the date range will remain on the X axis
To set up data extracts, please do the following:
- Log into Omniture SiteCatalyst
- Navigate to the report that you wish to set up the data extract for
- Click on the blue icon. The icon for the data extract is 6 in from the left under the specified report (i.e. pages). It looks like a blue server PC with a green arrow pointing to the right.
- Once the pop up appears, you can set up the extract using the following criteria (s.prop/eVar stats, date or metrics). The metrics are the out of the box plus metrics (page views, unique visitors, visits, etc) and custom events tracked.
- Now if you want to add in a correlation or two, you will need to locate the same icon (green magnifying glass over a green page), and click on that. That will allow you to add in more correlation data sets (as long as they have been established previously within the admin section between the two or more variables in question).
Please note:
Data extracts (which is raw data) are not available for all reports within SiteCatalyst. Here is a list of reasons why it might not be available:
- Hierarchy reports are not currently available for data extracts.
- Pathing Reports require graphical data, not raw data, to interpret and display accurately. Therefore these will not be available for data extracts.
- Visits and Unique Visitors metrics are not set up, out of the box by Omniture, to extract data.
- If you set up a correlation within the interface, you will not be able to then run a data extract. But by following the instructions above, you will be able to get that within the extract utility tool.
