Yahoo/Bing Search Merger
Just a head’s up to all search marketing professionals that the Yahoo/Bing search merger is just about to be completed which will have direct impact on your Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and Search Engine Marketing (SEM) efforts. It is important to understand what is going to go down in order to create a plan of attack moving forward.
From a high level perspective, here are two changes to be aware of:
SEO
- From an SEO perspective businesses/individual sites that rank well within Yahoo will more than likely see a negative effect on their positioning within Bing as the algorithm is different between the engines and Bing values things differently than Yahoo. If your site doesn’t rank well within Bing, I would advise you to read Bing: New Features Relevant to Webmasters prior to moving forward.
SEM
- With the merger, all Yahoo PPC accounts will need to be migrated into MSN adCenter. Also, reporting will not be differentiated between the two search engines so making sure you have the ability to set up a correlation between search engine, search keywords and conversions will be critical to defining success.
I would advise you all to do your research into this further to see how it will impact your business and then build a plan to combat this. You do not want to be scrambling once the switch is made to play catch up while your competition is thriving at your expense.

Terrific work! This is the type of information that should be shared around the web so that other web marketing professionals will know what is going on. Its a shame that this article hasn’t been ranked higher so that more could partake in the knowledge it provides. Keep up the good work!
