Omniture SiteCatalyst Helpful Tip – Accountability Matrices
Here is another helpful tip to help you take full advantage of all the functionality that Omniture SiteCatalyst has to offer. Have you ever wanted to tie a content developer or marketing person to the specific content/marketing campaign items that they are directly responsible for?Well, within SiteCatalyst, there are three ways to tackle this issue:
- Create campaign tracking codes that contain a unique identifier for the campaign name, type, and marketing person who created/placed this on the 3rd party site. Then within the interface, you will need to create the classification within the admin interface for the campaign variable to house these new designations. Also, you will need to work within SAINT to add in the additional information. While this is a quick and easy way to do this, this also is a very manual and laborious task to undertake (especially if you are running hundreds of marketing campaigns at the same time).
- Leverage an Omniture DB VISTA rule that provides your end users the ability to pass the data and then via the VISTA rule, reclassify it. This is the easiest way to do it and requires no additional coding to be done on your end. The downside is the cost ($3000) but if you can create a cost benefit analysis for senior leadership, you should have no problem selling them on this (as it would more than likely cost your internal team more than $3000 to allocate resources to this initiative).
- Another way to do this is via accountability matrices. The accountability matrix functionality is a little used function within SiteCatalyst. It takes the targeting capabilities, provided in Targets, and gives us the ability to break down the goal metric by two separate eVars. The downside to this is that you will need to pass in the content creator/marketing professionals ID in another query string parameter within the destination URL (or find another way to feed the data in).
To set up accountability matrices in Omniture SiteCatalyst, you will need to do the following:
- Log into Omniture SiteCatalyst
- Navigate to My Account
- Within My Account, locate and click on targets
- Create the target name and set the scope of the target to a metric vs. entire site
- Select the metric (in this case select revenue for the marketing person or page views/consumption for the content person)
- Select the target’s value
- Save (click ok)
Now with the ability to break down the target metric by two separate eVars, you will be able to create the accountability matrix and report to senior leadership on who is performing well vs. not.
