Basic Product Category Analysis via Omniture SiteCatalyst
Understanding which product categories generate the most orders and revenue on a site is key to retailers. This blog posting provides the steps necessary to gain valuable insight on product attributes such at category and how this and other attributes perform in relation to your products.
What you need:
- Implement shopping cart tracking
- Talk to you Account Manager about enabling classifications on your s.products variable. If you wish to upload product cost metrics, please ask them to also enable a numeric classification.
Once these steps are done, all you need to do is export a SAINT template from the SiteCatalyst interface, input your category information and product cost data (if you enabled numeric classifications), and upload that back into the interface. Viola! You now have the category data with your products data and can see which product brands and any other uploaded groupings (subcategories, etc) you defined sell best on your site. Some of the quick wins gained from this could be:
- Improving conversion by product category
- Optimizing profit
- Understanding the success of the product groupings
